Instructions for Power Door Lock Control and Installation. Procedures for Installing the hardware and routing the wires will differ from car to car. However, this is a universal kit and will work in nearly any car or light truck.
Hardware installation -
1. - Carefully remove the door panels. 2. - Since adjustable steel mounting strap is optional, you can either attach the strap to the door structure and mount the actuator, or attach the actuator directly to the door structure. Be sure to select a suitable mounting location that will not interfere with with the window mechanism, yet is still close enough to operate the door lock assembly. Note: If you have one five wire actuator, it will normally be for the driver's door. If there is a second five wire actuator, it would be for the passenger door. 3. - Slide the connector rod through the end hole of the actuator. Attach the connector rod clamp to the connector rod. 4. - Set the door lock in the unlock position and tighten the connector rod clamp with the clamp fitting screw. 5. - Pull connector rod until the actuator is fully extended and tighten the connector rod clamp to the door lock rod. 6. - Install the control module inside the vehicle, usually under the dash. Because of the high engine compartment temperatures, module reliability could be at risk.
Wiring instructions -
1. - Route wiring harness along the bottom of the door cavity. Be sure that no sharp edge from the door will cut or chafe the wires. Use rubber grommets or sleeves to protect the wires. Routing from the vehicle body to the door could be the greatest challenge during this installation. Just be patient and plan carefully. Ask a knowledgeable friend or even, as a last resort, have a body shop spend about a 1/2 hour making the routing arrangements that you find most difficult. 2. - Connect the five wire actuator to the wiring harness simply by matching colors. 3. - Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other door(s). 4. - Connect the the separate black wire from the wiring harness (the one without the wire connector end) to ground. 5. - Connect the separate red wire from the wiring harness to a constant (+) power source. Don't connect it to a source that has power available only when the key is on. 6. - Connect the wiring harness to the control module.
Final Testing - 1. - Press the driver's door lock down to the locked position. All doors should instantly lock. Placing the door lock in the unlock position will unlock all of the doors. Operate the door lock with the door key and all locks should follow the driver's door. If the passenger door also has the five wire actuator, the same tests will apply. Operating the door lock with the two wire actuators will have no effect on the other doors. 2. - Re-assemble the door panels.
